Is the Conroe, Texas area home to a so-far unrecognized Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz or Henri Cartier-Bresson? Perhaps we will find out soon.

The USTMAX Center and the Conroe Art League (CAL) announce their second bi-annual Art Contest and “Gallery” Show. The first competition was in the fall of 2021 and featured paintings with the theme of “hope.” In the new contest, photographers will get their chance to shine as their works attempt to evoke the theme of “horizons.”

“Partnering with the Conroe Art League provides opportunities for USTMAX to contribute to, and enhance awareness of, the local fine arts community,” USTMAX Center Senior Director Dr. Carla E. Alsandor said. “There is a tremendous amount of artistic talent here, and we look forward to how they will interpret ‘horizons,’ a theme that could point you in any number of directions.”

Photographers may submit entries now with a deadline of March 7.

Competition Guidelines

All submissions must adhere to the following guidelines:

·      Dimensions are 24” x 36” including the mat and frame

·      Photographs may be black & white or color

·      Each piece must be within a standard black photography frame outfitted with hanging wires

·      Event representatives will use 3M Command Hooks to hang each piece

“An artist may submit up to three photographs,” CAL Vice President, Debra Riley, said. “And that means that a single artist might have more than one piece chosen as winners.”

Using a rubric provided by USTMAX, a 5-judge panel will make selections and announce winners on March 11.

Have Your Photography Work Seen

As with the first contest, the top three winning photographs will be displayed in USTMAX’s Hallway Gallery for three months. While the winning pieces will be offered for sale, they must remain on display in the “Gallery” for the three-month duration.  Each of the winning artists will receive a small gift from USTMAX Center, in addition to the honor of having their art on exhibition.

Join Us for the Opening Reception

To launch the “show” and unveil the winning pieces, an opening reception will be held April 7, 2022, in the “Gallery” of the USTMAX Center.
