Heads Up to Veterans: Want $10K in Prize Money for Your Business Idea?

The clock is ticking on a free opportunity for military veterans who have entrepreneurial aspirations. Through May 28, 2021, any vets, vet spouses and founding members of vet-owned companies may register here to participate in a business pitch competition on June 11, 2021, and the chance to win $10,000 to be used toward creating the winner’s business or starting their education.

Go-for-it veterans who enroll for this final stage of HCC & UST’s 3-stage Veterans Entrepreneurship Program (VEP) will need to submit their business idea and prepare a persuasive “shark tank” style pitch.

Veteran students who enrolled and completed the first two stages of the VEP learned the ingredients of a solid pitch presentation. Participation in the earlier stages of the course is not required for the third stage.

VEP is a collaboration by Houston Community College (HCC) and the University of St. Thomas McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise to support veterans in acquiring the crucial knowledge and skills to start small businesses. VEP is free to veterans and military family members because of generous support from Microsoft, Wells Fargo and The McNair Foundation.

Patrick Woock, Ph.D, and director of the McNair Center, said, “There is no better feeling than empowering our nation’s heroes to succeed in the new business world. Veterans with dreams of viable businesses are encouraged to reach out and grab this free opportunity to pitch their ideas.”

Remember, May 28 is the last day to register here. What are you waiting for?
