Heating Up: Volleyball & Men's Soccer at HOME for Conference Matchups

This weekend, things heat up for UST Athletics as our fall sports begin conference play. With Women's Soccer and Cross Country on the road, there is an opportunity to support Volleyball and Men's Soccer as they compete at home.

Volleyball takes on the TLU Bulldogs & SU Pirates

UST's volleyball team will face Texas Lutheran and Southwestern to open conference play this Saturday in the Jerabeck Activity and Athletics Center (JAAC) at noon and 6 p.m. Team morale is high as they are on a ten game winning streak, the longest in the conference. Led by stars — freshman Audrey Cataline and senior Paige Havel — the Celts have shown a balance of offense and defense. Currently, St. Thomas has posted an impressive .053 opponent hitting percentage, a category that ranks 8th in the entire NCAA. Furthermore, the Celts lead the conference in service aces per set at 2.43.

"We are pleased with our pre-season performance, the team is working well together," Head Coach Keanne Burt '10 added. "It's a big weekend to establish our place in the conference and we are looking forward to the home court advantage our crowd will bring this weekend."

Come out and support your Celts at the JACC, where tickets are $5 and students are free! The Celts are celebrating 80s night and honoring alumni between sets along with our cheer team debuting their new routine!

Men's Soccer faces TLU Bulldogs

Men's Soccer takes on Texas Lutheran at Houston Sports Park Sunday at 3 p.m. Currently ranked No. 20 in the latest United Soccer coaches' poll of NCAA Division III, St. Thomas sits atop the SCAC standings with 5 wins and 1 draw. Led by breakout star Taty Aleman and current Offensive Player of the Week Daniel Castro, the Celt offense ranks 14th in the entire country with 3.5 goals per game, and 6th in total goal differential.

"To this point, I have been proud of our offensive output and defensive mentality," Head Coach Ian Clerihew said. "Come out and be part of the Celt Crazies as we continue the strong electric start to the season."

Men's Soccer plays on the beautiful grounds of Houston Sports Park, home of the Houston Dynamo and Dash. Admission is free for everyone, and there will be jacket giveaway at halftime for their matchup against Texas Lutheran on Sunday.
