Join Us for a Memorable Afternoon of Live, Irish Music

Join UST's William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies for a memorable afternoon on December 6 (see details below) featuring Chicago-based Kathleen Keane and Jesse Langen, two of the world's most gifted and renowned Irish musicians. Celebrate the great heritage of a joyful Christmas night with traditional Irish Christmas carols and tunes from the rich treasury of Ireland’s historical cultural.

Resembling a cottage in the west of Ireland, the musicians gather around a fireplace to grace a wintry night. Welcome them as they bring the international spirit of this holiday season right into your living room, and experience the charm and magic that only this festive time of year can bring

A multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and composer, Keane’s musical style embraces her first love of Irish music and blends fluidly into modern contexts. In March 2011, she released her solo recording, "Where the Wind Meets the Water." From movie soundtracks to commercials to Grammy nominated albums, and from intimate acoustic performances to headlining world stages, Keane is an exceptional musician who rises to the occasion on any platform with the highest performance standard.

Keane currently fronts a twenty-person ensemble called The Keane Machine, which features musicians, singers and dancers from Irish, jazz, country, bluegrass, Eastern European, classical and original. She also tours the country with a smaller version of this ensemble, The Mini Keane Machine.

Jesse Langen is an Irish guitarist who is acclaimed for his beautiful, dynamic, and powerful accompaniment of traditional Irish music. Equally comfortable on classical and electric guitar, he seeks to push both the technical boundaries and the conceptual functions of the guitar. Langen and his brother Tim grew up learning Irish and Canadian fiddle tunes from their grandfather Clarence and that grounding laid the foundation for Langen’s deep, loving approach to traditional music.

A graduate of Northwestern University, he teaches guitar and music composition at the Chicago Academy for the Arts, as well as at the Irish Music School of Chicago, in addition to playing new classical and traditional guitar performances of his own.
