University of St. Thomas-Houston’s Cameron School of Business (CSB) announces a new five-year BBA/MSF or Bachelor of Business Administration/Master of Science in Finance degree available in the spring of 2024. The dual degree program allows CSB students to efficiently complete both a bachelor's and master's degree in finance in 5 years, if not sooner.
The program will provide students in-depth knowledge in the principles and practices of finance and broaden their opportunities to work in finance-related careers, such as investment management, wealth management, financial planning, commercial banking, risk management and insurance, and real estate, etc. The BBA-MSF Dual Degree Program requires the successful completion of 120 credit hours of undergraduate courses and 30 credit hours of graduate courses, with a total of 150 credit hours.
BBA-MSF Dual Degree Program Advantages
A Fast Track to Professional
The BBA-MSF Dual Degree Program is a Five-year program to efficiently complete both a bachelor's and master's degree. The undergraduate degree (BBA) does not need to be in finance for the dual degree program. It also requires no work experience, which is great for undergraduate students. All graduate courses are scheduled in the evening to accommodate many of our students who have part-time or full-time jobs.
STEM-Designated Program
The program is STEM designated allowing international students OPT extension for an additional 24 months with a total of three years of practical training.
Certifications Exam
Course curriculum design includes more competitive knowledge and skills sought-after by prominent employers. It also helps students prepare for the financial certification exams (e.g., the CFA, the FRM and the CFP certifications, etc.)
Scholarship/Financial Aid
The scholarships/financial aid that the students receive for their undergraduate program might apply to the graduate portion if they take both undergraduate and graduate courses during a given semester.
Internship
The BBA-MSF candidate is strongly recommended to have an internship. UST has an outstanding Career Services Center on campus. The CSB and finance faculty will facilitate and support the process of securing internships for students as well.
Esay Application
The dual degree program simplifies the process for students at the college application stage, and GMAT or GRE is neither required nor recommended.
Close Interaction with Finance Faculty
Every BBA-MSF student will have an assigned finance advisor and the opportunity to work on a research project supervised by a finance faculty. As indicated in the degree plan, both internship and independent research is highly recommended.
Higher Earnings Potential
According to PayScale, one of the world’s most advanced compensation platforms, those who with a bachelor’s degree in finance earn an average salary of $75,000, while those with a master’s degree in finance have an average salary of $104,000 – the increase in salary is about 39% with a master’s degree.
