Next USTMAX Center Lunch & Learn: Global Cybersecurity

If you use a computer or a smartphone (which is a small computer), you have digital interests. Unfortunately, bad actors are after your digital interests or information. These cybercriminals use tactics like ransomware and phishing and much more sophisticated skills to hack and attack. Even businesses with huge interests at stake are at risk. On a global scale, hundreds of thousands of organizations still lack the resources to resist criminal hackers.

Find out more about how the world’s thousands of cybercriminals work and how cybersecurity can help knock them out at the next free USTMAX Center Lunch and Learn on Nov. 9, noon – 1:00 p.m., at USTMAX Center in downtown Conroe.  Guest speaker Assistant Professor Eric Botts, director of the University of St. Thomas-Houston’s Global Cybersecurity Program, will increase your awareness of these bad actors. Moreover, you will learn how UST’s global cybersecurity program, offered 100% online, uniquely prepares students to fight cybercrime as cybersecurity professionals.

Assistant Professor Eric Botts, director of UST's Global Cybersecurity ProgramAbout the Speaker

Before Botts came to UST, he was a foreign service officer at the U.S. State Department, eventually moving to the operations/policy area. He worked closely with cyber and computer system administration in a management role there. Botts gained experience in hazard response, including major cyber breaches, and is an expert on building resiliency into systems.

Important Opportunity Free and Open to Community

Emphasizing the value of cybersecurity awareness, Botts said, "Think of your data as currency because, in the world of cyberspace, it is. Every device you use contains that currency and you should make every effort to safeguard it."

USTMAX Center Recruitment Counselor Brenda Banegas added, “USTMAX is pleased to present our newest Lunch and Learn this fall to share information with the people of Montgomery County on another important topic. Hope to see you there.”

The USTMAX Lunch and Learn is free and open to the community. Come enjoy lunch with us and learn about how UST is preparing students for the fascinating field of global cybersecurity. RSVP here.
