Train and Qualify for Fulfilling Work

USTMAX Center, a micro-campus for the University of St. Thomas Houston, and HarperRand, which specializes in administering healthcare programs, “joined forces to enhance job-readiness and economic development in Montgomery County,” Dr. Carla E. Alsandor, senior director of USTMAX Center, said.

“These courses are a pathway into healthcare careers,” said Dr. Patty Pool, MBA, with HarperRand. “Some folks also use this training to put themselves through college. Our programs are accelerated and designed for working adults. Most students are non-traditional with many coming out of retail business looking for their first job in healthcare.”

Classes are in-person and online

These non-degree, certificate-awarded programs help students reach their full potential. Classes are a combination of in-person and live remote learning. Classes are offered four nights a week with every other evening in-person for skills training. Certified Billing and Coding classes are completely online.

HarperRand offers students resume assistance, job-ready skill development and CPR training in the medical assistant and phlebotomy courses.

Students do not earn academic, transferable credit hours. However, the training and job-ready skills prepare students to sit for their respective national certification exams and to prepare for employment in high-growth healthcare jobs.
