Two saints reunite for Two Saints and a Taco Tasting!

On November 10, the University of St. Thomas-Houston’s Academic Mall will be decked out for a fiesta like no other: UST’s wildly anticipated Two Saints and a Taco Tasting (TSTT). This year, the annual event’s founding partner, Saint Arnold Brewing Company, enthusiastically rejoins the party as beer sponsor alongside event chairs Lauren VerBerkmores ’07 and Jacob Dilworth ’18 to help raise funds for the UST Alumni Association Annual Scholarship Fund.

“We’re thrilled to participate again,” Saint Arnold Chief Marketing Officer Lennie Ambrose said. “This is an event we hosted for years inside our beer hall at the brewery until it got too big and too popular to hold at Saint Arnold. Then COVID hit. Now, we’re back for TSTT at UST’s heart-of-Houston campus.”

Reaction from the University to the two saints’ reunion was swift.

“Our alumni are so excited to have our two saints, Saint Arnold and St. Thomas, together again!” said Amy Youngblood, director of UST Alumni Relations.

Saint Arnold Brewing Company Chief Marketing Officer Lennie Ambrose and Branding Manager Jeremy Johnson discuss beer pairings for tacosVery proud of their restaurant’s new executive chef Chase Reid, Saint Arnold also plans to enter the taco contest. While they nail down the secret recipe for their entry, they have several helpful recommendations for pairing your taco tastes with just the right beer. And they should know—Saint Arnold Brewing Company has been honored as the 2023 Brewery of the Year by the Great American Beer Festival.

Pairing Your Taco with the Right Beverage

Representing Texas’ oldest craft brewery, Ambrose said, “A good beer and a taco is what people want. If your taco is spicy and bold, then our Art Car IPA would stand up well to the heat of the taco. For something richer, like a mole, I could see a Christmas Ale—the richness of the mole would be matched by that of the beer. And, if you’re going for something with a green salsa, then choose our Lawnmower Beer, which is crisp and light and refreshing.”

Sponsors like Saint Arnold make this scholarship fundraiser and alumni get-together a hugely successful memory-maker with live music, delicious tacos, thirst-quenching beers, and the best alumni on the planet.
