University Advancement Brings New Development Officers to the Team

LtoR:  Jeff Doherty, Lorin Crater and Matt PerkinsUniversity Advancement welcomes three, new team members to help UST meet its fundraising goals in major gifts and planned giving. All three directors, Jeffery Doherty, Matt Perkins and Lorin Crater, CFRE, join UST with a wealth of experience in philanthropic giving. Read their short bios and the areas they support in UA.

Lorin Crater, CFRE, Director of Planned Giving

Lorin Crater is responsible for UST’s planned giving efforts. From simple bequests to savvy financial planning as it relates to charitable giving, she helps align donors’ charitable intentions and tax considerations with UST’s strategic priorities. Prior to joining UST’s advancement team, she served at St. John’s School for nine years in a variety of capacities, including as the director of Alumni Affairs and Major Gifts before leading the School’s Endowment and Planned Giving efforts. Prior to working at St. John’s, Crater worked at the Houston Astros Baseball Club in foundation development.

Jeffery Doherty, Director of Development

Jeff Doherty has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit management and institutional advancement. In his role, Doherty is responsible for securing major gifts. Prior to coming to UST, Doherty served as a consultant for nationally recognized fundraising consulting firms where he conducted feasibility studies, capital campaigns, board trainings and annual fund development counsel for a diverse client base that included both start-up and multi-million dollar organizations. Doherty supports the fundraising priorities for Athletics, the School of Education, eSports, the Saint John Paul II Institute and online learning.

Matt Perkins, Director of Development

Matt Perkins joins UST with more than 10 years of experience in higher education and healthcare fundraising. In his role, He is also responsible for securing major gifts. Prior to joining UST, Perkins was a fundraising consultant with Dini Spheris. He has also served as a director of Development at University of Houston, and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Perkins supports the fundraising priorities for the Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing; the Cameron School of Business, Associate of Applied Science; and Natural Science, Engineering and Mathematics.
