University of St. Thomas-Houston partners with TheDream.US to welcome new 'Dreamers' to campus
University of St. Thomas-Houston is proud to partner with the nation’s largest scholarship and success program for immigrant youth, TheDream.US, to help more Dreamers achieve their college and career goals. This year, University of St. Thomas will welcome more than 22 new TheDream.US Scholars to campus.
The new Scholars starting their academic journeys at University of St. Thomas-Houston are part of the largest-ever cohort of TheDream.US scholars - more than 1,800 new scholars across the country attending more than 80 institutions across the country.
According to Arthur Ortiz, vice president for Strategic Partnerships and Alliances and Community Engagement,, “UST was approved for 10 but greatly exceeded expectations by enrolling 22.”
“I am very excited to welcome our first cohort of TheDream.US scholars to UST!” Sol Herrera, program coordinator for TheDream.US scholars at UST, said.
“TheDream.US provides Scholars with several resources to be successful, like a national community of scholars, mental health and immigration services, and career connections, to name a few,” Herrera said. “I am looking forward to helping bring these initiatives to our campus to support this demographic of students throughout their journey at UST.
“This scholarship also places a great emphasis on the student’s commitment to community service and their ability to overcome the barriers and challenges that undocumented students face each day,” Herrera said. “And, as their scholar advisor, I look forward to continuing to work with each of them one on one to support them throughout their time here at UST and beyond both for themselves and for our community.”
