University of St. Thomas Welcomes Largest Class in University History

UST in top 10% of private schools with increasing enrollment

University logoThis fall, the University of St. Thomas Houston welcomes the largest incoming class – freshmen, transfer and post-baccalaureate in University history. UST freshman and transfer enrollment is up 16% and more than 35% respectively. Post-Baccalaureate enrollment is also at an all-time high with a 155% increase year over year.

“When more than 90 percent of private schools are going to fall short of enrollment goals during the worst pandemic in 100 years, St. Thomas is seeing a positive uptick in all enrollment categories this year,” Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Engagement Arthur Ortiz said. “UST’s enrollment increase is happening when traditional new student enrollment across the country is down by about 19 percent.”

Welcome Class of 2024

“Given the crisis we are facing with COVID-19, we know that this year has been unprecedented for all universities,” Ryan Konkright, director of Admissions, said. “The record setting enrollment figures we are seeing across all populations of incoming students at UST speaks to the value of a liberal arts education and is a testament to our commitment to students. The quality, talent, diversity and excitement of the incoming class of 2024 is resoundingly strong, and we look forward to welcoming all of our new Celts on August 24th!”

New Program Offerings Help Smash Last Year’s Transfer and Post-Baccalaureate Numbers

“The UST Admission team has worked extremely hard to pivot and bring what once was almost exclusively in person interactions with our prospective Celts to this new virtual world,” Ryan Konkright, director of Admissions, said. “These efforts coupled with USTs strong academic appeal have greatly contributed to our success.”

In addition to this record-breaking class, UST rolled out new associate degrees in computer networking, electronic technology and cybersecurity and an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, which further added to its enrollment numbers.

The Call Toward Tomorrow

University of St. Thomas community, under the leadership of President Richard Ludwick, launched a strategic planning initiative in 2017, The Call Toward Tomorrow.
