UST and Lone Star College Team Up to Make Transferring Easy

Dr. Stephen C. Head. LSC Chancellor, and Dr. Richard Ludwick smile for a photo as they sign the agreement. University of St. Thomas Houston and Lone Star College team up to offer students an opportunity to start their college career at LSC and smoothly transfer to UST.

“This collaboration is a great example of our commitment to student success,” Stephen C. Head, PhD., LSC chancellor, said. “Having UST advisers on hand is another important resource to help students complete their degree.”

UST Counselors at LSC-University Center

As part of the process, LSC students interested in transferring to UST will now have an opportunity to visit with UST counselors at the LSC-University Center at The Woodlands.

“University of St. Thomas will have an admissions staff member at LSC University Center once a week to engage the dual credit high school students, the transfer students, and the staff and faculty for graduate studies,” Sara Johnson, Sr. Admissions Counselor, said.

The partnership was made formal during a signing ceremony, which took place Thursday, Feb. 14, at LSC-University Center at The Woodlands.

“This alliance is a natural extension of the relationship built between these two institutions,” said Dr. Richard Ludwick, UST president. “We are happy the University of St. Thomas and Lone Star College have this special opportunity to serve students.”

Program-to-Program Articulation Agreements Ensure Seamless Transfer

Thanks to the new Program-to-Program Articulation Agreements, students can begin at LSC and then transfer to UST. These agreements align the courses required for students to earn an associate degree at LSC and the bachelor’s degree at UST, ensuring a seamless transfer. The agreement transfer guide identifies and helps minimize any courses that are not required by the student to complete the bachelor’s degree at UST.

The Program-to-Program Articulation Agreements include:

  • Associate of Arts to Bachelor of Science, Nursing (BSN)
  • Associate of Arts to Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics
  • Associate of Science to Bachelor of Science, Chemistry
  • Associate of Science to Bachelor of Arts, Chemistry
  • Associate of Arts to Bachelor of Arts, Biology

UST's New, State-of-the-Art Science and Health Professions Building

The University of St. Thomas’ new state-of-the-art health science building offers high-tech equipment and classrooms has peaked interest among STEM majors.

The commonality of smaller classroom sizes and faculty attention received at Lone Star are similar to UST and help provide transfer students with a smooth transition to UST’s STEM classes.

UST STEM Success Center Offers Peer Mentoring

In addition to counselors, UST STEM Success Center will help LCS transfer students set goals and develop a career plan. LSC transfer students also have access to the center’s peer mentoring program.

“As the STEM Success Director and Research Manager, I hope to improve our student support services for transfer students entering the STEM majors and by doing so, UST hopes to improve these students retention and graduation rates,” Dr. Amber Miller said.

More Transfer Agreements in the Works

“We intend to expand on the current articulation agreements and add business, psychology and education and criminology, law and society degrees. Currently, UST has an articulation agreement with LSC for its International Studies Program,” Johnson said.
