UST Esports Top 10 Finalist for Most Prestigious Award

Fan Voting Will Be a Factor!

The celebrated Esports program at the University of St. Thomas-Houston is one of 10 finalists for the industry’s most prestigious award — Esports Collegiate Program of the Year. The winner of the coveted recognition will be announced at a ceremony in Las Vegas on December 13.

“Winning the top spot is the equivalent of taking home a grammy as a music artist,” UST’s Assistant Director of Esports Justin Pelt explained.

And Pelt is convinced UST has a real shot. “Looking at the other programs, I’m confident we’re top three. So, it’s going to come down to how the judges evaluate our accomplishments.”

Pelt is compiling a competitive highlights reel to position UST’s accomplishments and blow the judges away. It will include the University’s League of Legends team earning the College LoL National Championship this year. The players further dominated by making history with their championship, winning in record-setting time.

Vote for UST Esports!

Voting by the judges will amount to 75% of the tally. But an additional 25% will come from voting by fans. Make your voice heard. Fan voting is already underway here and continues till December 11. (Be sure to scroll down to the section called Esports Collegiate Program of the Year)

UST Program Is a Standout

Pelt proudly pointed out, “With at least 200 collegiate esports programs in the country, UST is the only one from Texas to be among the finalists.”

Esports is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. And UST was the first university in Houston to launch a competitive team and academic esports program.

Potential careers for an esports graduate include broadcasting, entrepreneur, esports coach, esports law, events manager, sales, social media coordinator and talent management.
