The University of St. Thomas-Houston is pleased to announce the appointment of Jose Luis Del Aguila as its new Chief Financial Officer. Jose Luis retired from Hewlett Packard in 2023 after a distinguished career serving for multiple decades in HP financial management and compliance roles and offices from Houston to Guadalajara, Mexico, to Spain. Born in Guadalajara, the multi-lingual, world-class professional brings extensive corporate financial experience and expertise to his role at UST.

“We are excited to welcome Jose Luis to UST,” Dr. Richard Ludwick, President of the University of St. Thomas, stated. “He brings a wealth of leadership experience on a global perspective, and already has proven to manage the intricacies of higher education.”

Since July 2023, Jose Luis has been serving as Interim CFO at St. Thomas, focusing primarily on enhancing financial reporting and budgeting and developing a sound fiscal plan for moving forward.

“My aim is to improve the University’s financial position and enhance excellence in all facets of financial and business operations,” Jose Luis said. “Those goals are part of helping UST live into the fourth pillar of its overall Greater Things strategic plan—ensuring financial sustainability.”

To that end, Jose Luis initiated a fiscal awareness campaign with targeted plans to improve operational excellence, addressing every meaningful aspect. With these plans, he has proceeded to create a stronger financial UST future to ensure that St. Thomas will remain a vibrant center for learning and innovation.

Along this journey, his transparent communication style has been a benefit, keeping everyone well-informed and engaged.

The new CFO comes to the University of St. Thomas with a pre-existing respect and admiration. He earned a Master of Science in Accounting from UST’s Cameron School of Business in 2016 and shares the University’s mission and values.
