UST Sweetens the Deal: Now Offers 300 Students Free Fall Tuition for Associates Degrees
Houston’s workforce has been hard hit economically during this pandemic. University of St. Thomas Houston, a private Catholic University located in the Montrose area, is on a mission to help those who lost jobs or those who want to move from a job into a career.
300 Students will Receive Fall Tuition FREE
To do their part for Houston’s workforce, the University announced last week that it had 100 open seats for FREE fall tuition for its three Associates’ degrees in Cybersecurity, Electronic Technology or Network Technology. These two-year programs are 100% online.
“What we discovered from our initial offer was that the need to secure a college education or retool for a stronger position in the job market was GREAT in Houston,” Dr. Richard Ludwick, UST President, said. “So we will now offer 200 more students – for a total of 300 students - the opportunity to receive FREE fall tuition in our Associate’s degree programs.
To sweeten the deal, and to offer more job training/career changing opportunities, University of St. Thomas did two things:
- Increased the offer to 300 open seats for the free fall semester
- Lowered the tuition for the 2-year program from $300 per credit hour to $200 per credit hour.
“What this means is a student can get a college education at a top, private university in Houston for approximately $9,600 (not including books and materials, depending on the program) out-of-pocket,” says, Dr. Nicole McZeal Walters, Dean of the Associates Program. "The job market for technology jobs is thriving with an increased demand in the degree areas commanding starting salaries around $90,000 and above. Industry leaders such as Microsoft, Chevron, and Athenian Consulting are thrilled with our mission-focused offer and will support the program with case studies, continuing education opportunities and job shadowing."
