·      3rd Place was given to Carol Fox Henrichs for “Horses on Trail.”

Planning a Winning Photo

Top winner, John Small, was surprised and thrilled to have his work honored and happy to recount how the image happened on a road trip with his wife in White Sands National Park.

“I wanted to really set off a shot with the help of a sunset, so I prepared in that specific area where there was a mountain range in the background,” he recalled. “When the sun went down, it lit up the entire sky so beautifully that I didn’t even notice a couple and their dog inside the frame. I was elated when I noticed them later because they added a human dimension.”

All are invited to stop by during regular business hours at USTMAX, where the winning images will be displayed for three months.

“There were so many beautiful submissions for this contest,” said USTMAX Senior Director Dr. Carla E. Alsandor. “It is too bad that we only have space to display three in our hallway gallery.”

More Events to Come

The Art Contest and “Gallery” Show is a bi-annual competition in fall and spring.

Alsandor said, “Community relations is a priority for us. Each time we host special events like this, we meet new people, introduce them to our programs, and share the Center’s mission and vision.”
