Zeeshan Khan BBA/MBA ’05 Named Partner at Weaver

BBA/MBA alumnus Zeeshan Khan ’05 has been named partner in charge of the Oklahoma City office of Weaver, a large CPA firm. Weaver has expanded into Oklahoma City as part of its strategic growth plan.

The company cites Khan as the right person to lead the expansion because of his “deep energy industry experience and broad commercial industry experience, combined with established relationships and knowledge of the local market.”

Khan is a Certified Public Accountant in Texas, California and Oklahoma.

Weaver is a Texas-based, nationally oriented accounting firm that provides a broad range of assurance, tax and advisory services. The Oklahoma City office marks the firm’s twelfth location in the U.S.

Khan has the Right Stuff

“Zeeshan was a bright, goal-driven student,” Prof. Ramon Fernandez, Cameron School of Business professor of accounting, said. “What stood out most was his personality. Very few people who start in public accounting make it to partner but there was never any doubt in my mind that Zeeshan had an excellent shot at partner with his work ethic and interpersonal skills,” Fernandez said.

Khan was formerly with PwC for nearly 14 years, providing assurance services to both public and privately held companies across a range of industries including oil & gas, manufacturing (industrial products) and retail. One of his standout industry accomplishments is co-authoring select chapters and making numerous edits throughout the widely-used and respected PwC oil and gas textbook, Petroleum Accounting – Principles, Procedures & Issues, 8th Edition.

Personal Attention from Professors Paved the Way

Fernandez also states that as a student, Khan would always seek his advice about accounting career paths and even industries to focus within public accounting. “He always appreciated the personal attention,” Fernandez said. “Now 15 years later, I am so proud of what he has achieved as an accounting professional.”

Khan also notes that it was the personal attention from his professors that helped him succeed.

“I owe a big part of my early career success to UST (BBA/MBA Accounting program) and specifically to Prof. Fernandez who assisted me on a personal level in preparing for my interviews,” Khan said. “All the professors at UST were very supportive and provided me a forum to shine and display my achievements. I ended up signing with PwC and the rest is history! Had I been at a much larger University and lacked the one-to-one relationships that I had at UST, I would have ended up being just a number and gotten lost in the stampede of candidates!”
