Alumnus Ordained as Basilian Father

Eduardo RiveraOn Saturday, May 18 Eduardo Rivera will be ordained into the Congregation of St. Basil at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Rivera ‘14 graduated from the University of St. Thomas with majors in Theology and Philosophy. It was at UST that he first started to consider becoming a priest, after attending daily Mass at the Chapel of St. Basil. Rivera also began working at Campus Ministry and came to spend more time with the Basilian Fathers. After attending a Basilian Vocation Retreat and learning more about the order, he requested to join the Basilians as an associate.

“I felt drawn to the Congregation of St. Basil because of their authenticity and their charism for education in the new evangelization,” Rivera said. “The diversity of members and their wide range of interests allowed me to understand that I would not lose myself in religious life. The vows of poverty, chastity and obedience that I would profess allow me to reach my fullest potential of who God calls me to be.”

After his ordination as a deacon this Saturday, Rivera will minister at St. Anne’s Parish in Houston to develop his pastoral skills and learn about the practicalities of ministry.
