Literacy Book Drive, the Joy of Reading

In March, the Bush Ladies for Literacy Guild hold their third annual Book Drive.

The Book Drive’s primary purpose is to fill the Curiosity Cruiser’s inventory to serve the literacy needs of Houston families. The Curiosity Cruiser is a super library on wheels that distributes free books for children to read and build their very own home libraries.

Supporting the cause are UST Literacy Guild members First Lady Melynda Ludwick and Diane Aquila who will host the book drive effort on campus.

The campus book drive is March 14 – 31.

Campus Donation Box Locations

Three locations for donation boxes are located in Crooker Center, Doherty Library and the atrium of the Center for Science & Health Professions.

The Barbara Bush Foundation notes that 61 percent of low-income children do not own books. Research shows that access to books in the home is a more important factor influencing reading achievement levels than parent education level and socioeconomic status.

Give generously and donate your favorite new or like new children’s, young adult or adult books.
