Hopeful Thinking Drives Mardi Gras to May

In a prayerful desire to allow in-person attendance at the 2021 Mardi Gras Gala, University of St. Thomas – Houston is pushing the event date from February 13 to May 22.

Rollout of the COVID vaccines has brightened the horizon, giving reason to hope that an in-person, open-air celebration may be safe by May.

Also, the new date means that more students may be able to participate—an early tradition that has been re-invigorated in recent years.

Moving ahead, the chairs and committee will continue to plan for both in-person and virtual program options, listening to the most current pandemic conditions and input from medical experts.

Stay tuned. UST hopes to gather for Mardi Gras in the spring when all things are made new!
