It’s the American Idol of Esports Competitions: Vote for UST-Houston!

UST Esports 2023 LoL ChampionsThe University of St. Thomas-Houston Esports Team is racking up more accolades this year, and your fan support can boost them even higher! UST has been nominated in three categories within the Scholars Collegiate Gaming Awards, which is like the “American Idol” of esports competitions where fans determine the winners. The categories for UST-Houston are Collegiate Program of the Year, Team of the Year (UST League of Legends team), and Institution of the Year.

UST Director of Esports Jonathan Baadsgaard said, “Being nominated to begin with is an honor, and it's a true testament to the amount of effort by all of our esports students who have been with us since 2021. Our students have earned these award nominations, so I would truly appreciate anyone willing to take time out of their day to honor them by voting."

UST’s trailblazing Esports Program has proven to be a powerhouse able to dominate top-tier teams. This year, for the second year in a row, the University’s League of Legends (LoL) Team won the national Collegiate LoL Championship 2023, making it the nation’s premier CLoL esports program.

In addition, in March 2023, UST’s Valorant Team seized the championship title at the College HUEfest Invitational.

With his eye on the future, Baadsgaard said, “The UST Esports program is looking toward spring 2024 as we continue our dominance. With these three current nominations and multiple championships, we aim to solidify UST as the nation’s No. 1 college for esports.”

A Dynamic Program for Competitors and Non-Competitors

UST’s exciting esports program provides a multidisciplinary education curriculum, a gaming club and related internships. With this well-designed, integrated program, students connect their coursework with experiential learning and understand how to access careers, whether they are competitors or non-competitors in this booming field.
