Lots of Celt Pride in Upcoming Founders Week

With so much to celebrate in the 75th year of the University of St. Thomas-Houston, event organizers are extending UST’s annual Founders Day festivities to a full week. Appropriately, the Founders Week theme is “Milestones & Miracles.”  Mark your calendars because the fun begins on April 26, 2022.

Celebrate Rising Stars at Open House & Cookout

On April 26, 2022, from 6 – 8 p.m., come and meet some of the success stories at the Inaugural Rising Stars Open House and Evening Cookout to be held in the new Rising Stars Lounge located in the former Black Lab Pub.

UST Director of Corporate Relations Mallory Peterson ’11 said, “We want to invite everyone to come out and meet the incredible Rising Stars students, their families and our greathearted sponsors who make the program possible.”

In the Rising Stars Program with an estimated 100 participants, qualified students are placed in paid internships with sponsor companies where they work throughout the academic year. As a result, they earn funds to help offset the cost of tuition and gain on-the-job experience as well as professional relationships and connections.

Open Your Hearts for Giving Day

On April 28, Giving Day 2022 executes its 24-hour challenge to promote philanthropy and help UST’s students in need. The giving event will be infused with plenty of fun, so come to the Campus Life Mall for food trucks, games and giveaways. UST President Dr. Richard Ludwick will also be there with some words of inspiration and encouragement for the crowd.

Director of Stewardship and Annual Giving Jacquelyn Olexa said, “The generosity of our community is something to celebrate! We hope everyone feels inspired to support the cause that’s most meaningful to them while taking advantage of matching grants from generous friends like The PJ Moran Foundation.”

A crowd favorite, the Scholarship Power Hour, matches scholarship gifts dollar for dollar and will happen at 10:00 a.m.

To make donations online, the Giving Day website is ready here.

PSON Marks 10th Anniversary

Of all the milestones and miracles achieved by UST over the last 75 years, the reestablishment of UST’s School of Nursing 10 years ago is among the most incredible. Thanks to the amazingly generous initial donation of $2.5M from visionary philanthropists, Carol and Odis Peavy, and the tireless and expert leadership of former Dean Dr. Poldi Tschirch, the Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing is an award-winning school today.

From its beautiful home in the Center for Science and Health Professions, the nursing school has steadily expanded to offer excellent degree programs, including:

·      Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

·      Accelerated BSN (ABSN)

·      Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), RN-to-MSN

·      Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

·      Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Furthermore, PSON boasts six $2M faculty chair endowments. As for enrollment, an estimated 500 students are signed up for the spring 2022 session.

Indeed, during Founders Week 2022, UST is richly blessed and aims to stay strong for its students.
