New certificates in business offer specialized knowledge and career opportunities

Now, whether you have a degree or not, you can complete a set of six targeted courses to get specialized career path knowledge in business and use it to get a job, win a promotion or change jobs. The University of Saint Thomas-Houston Kolbe School of Innovation & Professional Studies is launching four new certificate programs for students who want to focus on Social Media Marketing, Management and Leadership, Applied Accounting or Professional Sales.

Kolbe’s attractive certificate programs offer the flexibility of being online and asynchronous. But that is not all. The programs will inspire some students to think about different career paths in business. Others may see their certificate as an “interim credential” on the way to a full two-year or four-year degree in their general business field of focus as credits transfer to a two or four-year program if desired.

UST Chair of the Kolbe General Business Program Dr. Mark AmelangChair of the Kolbe General Business Program Mark Amelang, MBA, Ed.D, said, “Kolbe’s certificate programs in specific business areas will meet the needs of various students. We know some will use their certificates to get a promotion in their current job or get a different job within the organization. Even people who have already graduated from college are enrolling in our certificate programs to enhance their hire-ability or change professions.”

A recent example Dr. Amelang cited was a graduate with a BS/BA in psychology who sought to switch careers with knowledge and skills gained from the Certificate for Social Media Marketing program.
