Seven student athletes take transformative trip to elevate performance

In a journey filled with anticipation and excitement, the University of St. Thomas-Houston Spirit (Cheer & Dance) Program recently embarked on a transformative trip to the 2024 NCA/NDA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. Seven student athletes and Head Coach Ceirra Bonds from the UST program had the opportunity to observe and be inspired by the most prestigious collegiate cheerleading and dance competition in the nation.

Among the talented teams from across the country, including powerhouse programs like Boise State University, Weber State University, University of Louisville, and University of South Carolina, the UST Spirit Team soaked in the electrifying atmosphere of the event. Additionally, they had the chance to witness the prowess of Texas-based teams such as Texas Tech, University of Texas at Dallas, Stephen F. Austin, and Sam Houston State University.

As they watched the awe-inspiring performances unfold before their eyes, the UST athletes left with a hunger and determination to potentially vie for their own NCA/NDA Collegiate Title in 2024. The experience served as a catalyst for their aspirations, igniting a fire within each member of the team to strive for excellence and push Head Coach Ceirra Bonds’ team culture forward.

“This was an inspiring trip to build our team culture,” 6x National Champion and Spirit  Head Coach Ceirra Bonds said. “After seeing what it takes to compete at the highest level within Cheer and Dance, our team is excited to compete in 2025!”

Inspired by the talent, dedication, and sheer athleticism displayed by their fellow competitors, the UST Spirit Team returned home with a renewed sense of purpose and vigor. Armed with valuable insights gained from observing the top teams in the nation, they are more determined than ever to hone their skills, refine their techniques, and elevate their performance to the next level in 2024!
