UST Aims For Playoffs Glory at NCAA Div. III National Tournament

Let the March Madness begin! University of St. Thomas-Houston Men's Basketball will open up the round of 64 at the NCAA National Tournament against Claremont Mudd Scripps. The game will take place at California Lutheran University, Friday, March 1 at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Having clinched an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships, UST concluded the regular season with an impressive 20-6 record, including a dominant 14-2 in SCAC play. They also defeated top-10-ranked SCAC rival Trinity University twice this season.

This would represent the Celt’s second appearance in the NCAA tournament scene after officially joining Division III last year. Their opponents, Claremont Mudd Scripps, mirrored UST's season record of 20-6 and pulled off a victorious SCAC championship, having triumphed over host school Cal Lutheran with a score of 61-55.

Leading the Celts this season has been First-Team All-SCAC Performer Calvin Williams. Notably, Calvin stands out as the sole player in the SCAC to rank within the top 10 in PPG, total points, free-throw percentage, steals, and assists, further solidifying his status as a multifaceted talent in the conference. Alongside him, sophomore Nick Anderson, who boasts an average of 16.7 PPG and has achieved double-digit scoring in 21 games, has earned a Second-Team All-SCAC recognition for his exceptional contributions.

On the other side of the bracket, host school Cal Lutheran will face off with Whitworth to open the tournament. The winners of the initial matchups will face off in the round of 32, with aspirations of advancing to the Sweet 16.
