UST Graduating Seniors Get Innovative Virtual Assistance with their Job Search

In this time of uncertainty when we are all staying home to stay healthy, University of St. Thomas continues to function successfully in the virtual world to guide its graduating seniors into the job market with confidence.

Attention all Graduating Seniors

“We are searching out seniors who will graduate in May 2020 to find out how we can help them with their job search,” Career Services Director Paula Marsh said.

All career-related services will be offered virtually through individual sessions offered Monday - Friday including resume review, cover letters, interviewing, assessments, job search, and LinkedIn. The team will host virtual roundtable discussions and more on social media platforms,” she said. “Career Services is using all platforms including Zoom, freeconferencecall.com, Skype, Instagram, Handshake and LinkedIn.”

Graduating seniors utilizing this new normal find the experience normal!

“Working via zoom didn't change [Career Services staffer] Ms. Rasbeary's availability or efficiency,” Communications major Amanda Simon said. “I was able to get everything I wanted to get done, and our interaction felt natural. I’m looking forward to my next appointment.”

Sharpen Your Job Skills Virtually

“Career Services is utilizing technology in new ways during campus' ‘remote’ period and engaging in students and alumni in new ways!” Marsh said.

“For the first time in our office, virtual appointments are happening via Zoom and allowing students/alumni to still receive one-on-one help with their career development. We are also utilizing our social media platforms in new ways by creating "live" videos going over questions students and alumni have about career development and their job search. This will allow us to engage with more students/alumni and be able to answer real-time questions they have,” she said.

“Another project we are rolling out is an online "International Student Workshop" that will go over tips and tricks specifically for our international students and help them be successful in their career pursuits.

Finally, our student workers are continuing to post numerous times a day on social media covering new jobs/internships, career advice, and latest event information.

“In regards to online resources, we will be creating "How-To" videos covering these topics:

  • Resumes
  • Cover Letters
  • Interviewing
  • Job/Internship Search
  • LinkedIn
  • Handshake
  • How to make an appointment on Handshake
  • Salary Negotiation
