UST hosts 4th Annual Cyber Ethics Conference

Prof. Eric Botts and  U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Alamdar HamdaniThe Global Cybersecurity Program in partnership with the Center for International Studies held its 4th Annual Cyber Ethics Conference last Friday, Feb. 9. The event, hosted by Prof. Eric Botts, director of the Global Cybersecurity Program, was held in Malloy Hall’s Tatkon Boardroom and was a hybrid event with most participants attending virtually. 

The keynote speaker was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Alamdar Hamdani.  In addition, there were three panels of cybersecurity experts dealing with questions concerning data protection, privacy and ethics.

Panelists for Session 1: Data Protection Panel included Moderator, Dr. Carlos Monroy, Asst. Professor, UST Department of Computer Science; Senior Consultant Partner Anne M. Rogers, COO/CSO of ERASCO Group; Founder and CEO Marcia Jackson of i5 Networks, Inc.; and President and CEO Catharina “Dd” Budiharto of Cyber Point Advisory.

Panelists for Session 2:  Privacy Panel included Moderator, Prof. Eric Botts; Sr. Cyber Defense Consultant Delwyn Trusty from TATA Consultancy Service; Chief Privacy Officer and Data Protection Officer Harvey Nusz with 4IT Security, Governance & Compliance; and Founder Candace McCaddon of Candace McCaddon Law.

Panelists for Session 3: Cyber Ethics Panel included Moderator, Prof. Eric Botts; Senior Director Information Technology Hellmut Olmetberger from MRC Global; Founding Attorney Lisa Angelo of Angelo Law Firm; Founder and Managing Director Adil Gokturk of Warptage Inc.; and Senior Engineer Sam Denard from Fortify.
