UST Partners with HarperRand to Offer Healthcare Professional Development Courses

students in allied healthcare training programs

The University of St. Thomas and HarperRand, who specializes in administering allied healthcare training programs, have formed a new partnership to offer healthcare professional development courses in Montgomery County before also bringing the non-degree, certificate-awarded programs to the main campus. UST is the first private, Catholic university to partner with HarperRand. UST and HarperRand share a common mission - to help students reach their full potential and to provide service to the community.

Train and Qualify for Fulfilling Work

“We are really excited about the new partnership with HarperRand,” Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of UST’s Online Education Jim Monaghan said. “It allows the community to take healthcare professional development courses at UST to become qualified for essential and fulfilling work in healthcare.”It is particularly beneficial for Montgomery County as UST expands its presence, bringing UST's private higher education opportunities to that area."

Students will be able to train for positions as phlebotomy technicians, clinical medical assistants, pharmacy technicians, or billing and coding specialists. Courses will begin in July 2021.

Classes are In-person and Online

Classes are offered in a hybrid format that combines learning both online and in a classroom. Typically lectures will be online and the skills portion will take place in person. After passing the fast-paced, affordable didactic and practical training and the externship, students can apply for licensure.

Prepare to Sit for National Exams, Employment

Students do not earn academic, transferable credit hours. However, these training and job-ready skills prepare students to sit for their respective national certification exams and for employment in high-growth healthcare jobs.

“This partnership is a win-win-win,” USTMAX Senior Director Carla E. Alsandor, Ph.D said. “Students succeed by earning quality, affordable certifications that enhance their lives professionally, HarperRand accomplishes their goal of preparing students for successful careers in healthcare, and UST fulfills its mission of serving the residents of Montgomery County. We are poised and ready to welcome students into these new programs and to support them through their educational journeys.”
