You’re Hired! UST Career Services Busier Than Ever Creating Excellent Job Opportunities

UST’s Career Services Center team is blasting into the latest academic year with new faces on the team and a terrific strategy for placing St. Thomas students in the careers of their dreams.

Director of the Career Services Center Paula Marsh said, “We’re excited about the new semester and laying the groundwork to continue serving students, alumni and the community through four pillars aligned with UST’s Mission, Vision and Goals.”

Those four pillars are as follows:

  • The CELT Career Experience provides students with the guidance, resources and tools to discover their passion and purpose through self-discovery, exploration, experience, and action.
  • Professional Development provides students and alumni the opportunity to grow within their careers, develop as leaders and make an impact within the community.
  • Employer Engagement partners with the community, industry professionals and employers to engage with our students and alumni through programs, events, and workshops helping to build meaningful relationships and opportunities.
  • Strategy and Outcomes provides knowledge and insight of student success.

More Recruiting Events

Expect to see more recruiting events on campus (take that, COVID!) and virtually this semester. Among the exciting companies that are hosting recruiting sessions during the week of September 6, 2021, are the Houston Texans, Huntington Learning Center and Harmony Public Schools. Two weeks after that, get ready for on-campus recruiting and information sessions by the FBI, Harris Health and Prospanica plus a career fair.

So Much Opportunity

More than 3,000 employers actively seek to hire UST students and alumni. The median salary for full-time hires is $58,000.

Pitching in with skills to make the recruiting magic happen are New Career Services team members, James D. Martin II and Jarred Gibson.

Two New Hands on Deck

Martin is the new assistant director of Employer Engagement. He comes from previous roles in insurance, healthcare and education. Also, Martin serves the community as a professional speaker, author, corporate trainer and etiquette consultant. In addition, he is leading the development of employer relationships and a formal campus recruiting program to increase opportunities for students and alumni.

Gibson is the new assistant director of Career and Professional Development. He has a background in serving students within the non-profit sector. Gibson's role in career services encompasses guiding students and alumni on their career journeys. He helps them find their passion and purpose and ensures they have the knowledge, resources and tools to move forward in their lives.

The Right Support for Job Seekers

More than career event organizers and job finders, the Career Services experts are here to provide students with a career action plan and the skills they need to land the job they want. Students receive access to job-finding tools and invaluable skills training needed to nail that important interview.
